Iresine Herbstii
Steak plant

Brazil
Native to tropical South America, especially southern Brazil, the Iresine is a real eye-catcher that you don't often come across. With its brightly coloured leaves and stems in green, yellow, pink or purple, this plant immediately catches the eye. The striking veins make the colours even more intense. Because of these veins and sometimes deep red colour, the Iresine sometimes gets the name ‘steak plant’ or ‘blood leaf’.
We grow several varieties of the Iresine: Rich Funny Gold, Rich Goldstar, Rich Redstar and Rich Darkstar. Perfect for giving your interior a colour boost!

Care tips
A light, sunny location
Like most colourful plants, the Iresine likes a lot of light, but since it is an easy plant, it will also do fine in a somewhat darker place. The Iresine can handle bright light, which may give its leaves an even more beautiful colour, but watch out for midday sunlight as it can be too bright for the leaves.
Keep moist, the potting soil must not dry out
As with any plant, it is best to water regularly and not let the pot ball dry out. This Iresine can be quite thirsty, so keep an eye on the soil to make sure it doesn't get too dry. If you have given too little water once, you will see that the leaves start drooping. Water some more and they will stand up straight again. This way, you will be able to enjoy this beautiful colourful plant for as long as possible.
Easy plant
The Iresine is an easy plant to look after. It likes light but doesn’t mind a darker spot either. It likes water, but if you forget to water it once in a while, it’ll be fine. Its beautiful leaves really brighten up your home and add an instant “green touch” to your living room.
Truly a plant to love!
