Bring the tropics into your home with Curcuma, also known as the Siamese or Thai tulip! Originally from Thailand, called Siam until 1929, Curcuma grows there just like the tulip fields in the Netherlands.
With its large, exotic flowers in deep purple, pink or white and long, graceful leaves, the Curcuma gives your interior an exotic flair. It steals the show in any room, especially during the sunny months.

Note: Curcuma is an ornamental plant and not suitable for consumption. Specially grown varieties are used for cooking with Turmeric. But for a unique, tropical appearance in your home, Curcuma is the perfect choice!

Care tips

A light, sunny location

The Curcuma is a real sun-lover and therefore prefers a spot with plenty of sunlight. A window sill, for example, is a great spot for the Curcuma. If the temperature is above 15 °C, the Curcuma will also thrive outdoors.

Keep moist, the potting soil must not dry out

The Curcuma comes from the rainforest and is therefore used to a lot of water. In fact, it prefers moist potting soil. In general, watering twice a week is sufficient. Just make sure that no water remains at the bottom of the pot, as the roots of the Curcuma will rot if left in water for a long time.

The flowers

With sufficient light, water and nutrients, a flower will continue to bloom for around 3 weeks. Once the flower has finished blooming, cut it off as close to the ground as possible so that the plant can channel all its energy into a new flower. A Curcuma can produce 2 to 5 new flowers, so you can enjoy it for a very long time. Your ornamental Curcuma plant is not suitable for consumption. Specially cultivated varieties are used for cooking with turmeric.
